KVE Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Seizure
Wooton, KY. - Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement (KVE) officer Landry Collett seized approximately two ounces of cocaine and three pounds of marijuana on Sunday night during a traffic stop on Kentucky 80 in Leslie County.
Upon making contact with the driver, Officer Collett realized the driver was impaired. Further search of the vehicle revealed two ounces of cocaine, multiple pain pills and more than three pounds of marijuana estimated at a street value of nearly $7,000. The driver was charged with several traffic violations including: reckless driving, driving under the influence, trafficking a controlled substance and trafficking marijuana.
Officer Collett has recently received awards from both Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement (KVE) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for his efforts to reduce drinking and driving on Kentucky roadways. With more than 347 arrests for impaired driving in 2004, Officer Collett was the leading officer in DUI arrests for the state of Kentucky.
"This seizure shows just how valuable Officer Collett, and all of our Vehicle Enforcement Officers are," said KVE Commissioner Greg Howard. "KVE officers are highly trained experts in all areas of law enforcement --- particularly in stopping the drug traffic through our state."
