Board Members

Shannon Jones, Parole Board member Shannon Jones, Chairman
A resident of Lexington, Kentucky, Shannon Jones is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a B.S. degree in Psychology. She is currently pursuing a M.S. degree in Criminal Justice. Ms. Jones has served as a Child/Adult Protection Investigative Supervisor as well as a Rapid Response Investigator for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She has also served on multidisciplinary task force teams in Southeastern and Central Kentucky. Ms. Jones has conducted joint investigations and acted as a liaison for various agencies, such as the Lexington Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Commonwealth Attorney's Office, and the University of Kentucky Hospital. She was appointed to the Parole Board on July 1, 2010.

Caroline Mudd

A resident of Lebanon, Caroline Mudd retired as Warden from CCA/Marion Adjustment Center after a 20-year career in corrections. She is a graduate of Campbellsville University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in History and a minor in Criminal Justice. She is active in her community and has served on various boards and committees, including Centre Square Committee and Marion County Public Library Board of Trustees.

George Carson

George A. Carson is a resident of Louisville, where he retired from Jefferson County Public Schools after 32 years of service.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from Kentucky State University.  He also holds a Masters degree in Education and Rank 1 Certification from the University of Louisville.  He was appointed to the Parole Board July 15, 2010. 

Sarah Johnson

Sarah G. Johnson is a resident of Mt. Sterling, KY.  She holds a BSW from Morehead State University and a Masters of Social Work with a mental health concentration from the University of Kentucky.  Mrs. Johnson started her career as a mental health and substance abuse treatment provider.  She spent the last five years working for the Department of Public Advocacy.  In this position she worked with convicted felons to set up alternative sentencing plans that included treatment aimed at addressing the underlying problems that led to their criminal behavior.  She was appointed to the Parole Board August 1, 2011. 

Dwayne Depp

Dwayne F. Depp is a former Captain with the Kentucky State Police. He served in numerous areas, including narcotics, general investigations, recruitment, legislative security and Commander of the Morehead Post. A resident of Frankfort, he holds a B.A in Criminal Justice from Kentucky State University. Immediately prior to joining the board he served as the Assistant Director of Kentucky’s only statewide child abuse prevention agency, Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky. Mr. Depp has served on numerous boards and committees in the central Kentucky area. He was appointed to the Parole Board August 1, 2011.

Neeka Parks

Neeka Parks is a resident of Jefferson County where she served as a licensed practicing attorney.  Ms. Parks obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and her Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville. In addition, Parks completed a professional certification in Diversity Management from Cornell University and a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Fellowship in Public Policy at the University of Michigan.  She was appointed to the Kentucky Parole Board on July 15, 2011.

Amanda Spears

Amanda Spears is from Somerset.  A graduate of Berea College and Tulane Law School, Ms. Spears is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Louisiana Bar Association.  She previously served as a Senior Staff Attorney for the Kentucky Supreme Court.  Ms. Spears was appointed to the Parole Board on August 1, 2011.

Lelia A. VanHoose

Lee VanHoose, Parole Board memberParole Board Member
A resident of Lexington, Lee VanHoose has a wealth of experience in the criminal justice system. A graduate of Georgetown College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, she served as a probation and parole officer and district supervisor for the Division of Probation and Parole for 20 years before being named its Director in 2005. She was appointed to the Parole Board on July 16, 2013.

Sharon L. Hardesty

A resident of Lexington, Sharon Hardesty is a graduate of the University of Kentucky where she earned degrees in Sociology and Law. Ms. Hardesty taught Sociology for more than 20 years at Eastern Kentucky University. She has researched and written about communities in crisis and the historical roots of violence in Eastern Kentucky, and is active in her community. She was appointed to the Parole Board on July 16, 2013.
