- Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement honors officers; Anthony Bersaglia named Officer of the Year
Wednesday, June 04, 2008 In the four years he's been an officer with the Department of Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement, Anthony Bersaglia has built a reputation among his colleagues for his determination and dedication to the job.
A former deputy sheriff and conservation officer, he generates an activity level that, according to his commanders, no one else can reach, was selected to be a firearms instructor within his first year with the department, and is a double recipient of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Award for Officer, which recognizes an officer for his or her dedication to commercial vehicle safety.
“He is known as a man who sincerely reaches out to help those in need and help protect those who have entrusted their safety with him,” said Capt. Phillip Frazier, who coordinated the awards program. “He makes himself available to other officers and citizens, even when he is not on duty.”
In honor of those achievements, KVE presented Bersaglia the 2007 Jason Cammack Officer of the Year Award, bestowing on him KVE's highest award, which recognizes “what a police officer should represent in his professional and personal life.”

Connie Malone has been named Deputy General Counsel for the Justice Cabinet, and Brenn Combs has been promoted to General Counsel for the Department of Corrections.
- Justice Cabinet announces Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds available to communities
Thursday, May 01, 2008 Justice and Public Safety Secretary J. Michael Brown today announced that funding is available through the Cabinet for programs that offer direct services to victims of violent crime. Applications for the funding, which is received through the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), are due by June 13, 2008. And for the first time, applications must be submitted online.

Monday, April 28, 2008 The National Governors Association (NGA) has notified Governor Steve Beshear that Kentucky’s application for the NGA’s Center for Best Practices’ “Executive Policy Retreat on Sentencing and Corrections” has been accepted. Kentucky is one of fourteen states that will be sending representatives to the retreat.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth discovered 23 meth labs, seized more than 2,400 pounds of marijuana, identified 16 drug endangered children and arrested 565 individuals in connection with illegal drug use in a 24-hour period. The one-day blitz was part of a national effort to highlight the effectiveness of concentrated drug enforcement activities.
